Scott Letendre
Since joining the UCSD faculty, Dr. Letendre has conducted translational and patient-oriented research of the correlates and consequences of chronic central nervous system infections, primarily HIV and HCV. His research includes observational cohort and interventional treatment studies. The treatment trials primarily consist of treatment trials of investigational drugs in neurocognitively impaired HIV-infected individuals. In these trials, Dr. Letendre analyzes responses to therapy, pharmacokinetics of antiretrovirals, and the CSF concentrations of biomarkers. He is also an active investigator in the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG, funded by the NIH) and is currently a member of both the national ACTG Neurology Subcommittee and the CNS Focus Group. Dr. Letendre has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals including AIDS, Neurology, Journal of Neuroimmunology, and The Journal of Infectious Diseases. Dr. Letendre isĀ Co-Investigator of the Laboratory & Virology Component and a co-director of CHARTER. He is responsible for the performance and integrity of the specimen bank. He works with CHARTER investigators, and others when appropriate, to facilitate interaction and transfer of samples to other labs. Dr. Letendre directs the performance of biomarker assays on CSF and plasma samples from study participants.
